The EGR sailing team was started in 2014 to compete with other highschools across the United States through the Interscholastic Sailing Association. Under the organization of Grand Rapids Interscholastic Sailing the team practices with other local highschools on Reeds Lake where sailors can enhance their sailing abilities under the guidance of very experienced and knowledgeable coaches

Do you need to know how to sail?
Anyone is welcome to join the team! no sailing experience required
What grade do you have to be in to sign up?
Anyone grades 7 and up can join the team and compete however middleschoolers can only compete in the tier 3 regattas
What is the difference between a tier 2 and tier 3 Regatta?
Tier 3 are more informal just for fun regattas with looser rules. Tier 2 regattas are more serious regattas like the state championship, and qualifiers for more prestigious regattas
How often are practices?
Practices are typically twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:15 to 6:30 however this is subject to change year to year

When does the season take place?
Sailing is a fall sport which typically runs from labor day to late October/early November
Is sailing a varsity sport?
Sailing is a varsity sport and eligable participants can earn their varsity letter
What kind of boats are sailed?
The EGR sailing team primarily practices on c420's but there is also many opportunites for participants who own a laser to practice and race their laser
